PACIFIC AIR SERVICE

IMPERIAL AIRWAYS’ RART TALKS WITH U.S. COMPANY. PLAN NOT YET SETTLED'. (United Press Association.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) Received August 27, 9.50 a.m. SAN FRANCISCO, Aug. 25. Mr Edward Cahill (utilities manager of the city of San Francisco) told the Australian Associated Press to-day that there was a distinct possibility that Imperial Airways would establish a service between San Francisco and Australia.

Pan-American Airways, he said, had leased the use of airport facilities on Treasure.. Island, San Francisco, but Mr Cahill explained that they would use only one hangar, leaving the other available for Imperial Airways. He declined to give further details, and added that the negotiations were not yet completed. Treasure Island, in San Francisco Bay, was named in honour of the Golden Gate and the World’s Fair, and is being made a permanent airport, added Mr Cahill. A New York message says that Imperial Airways, in an interview with the Australian Associated Press, expressed doubt as to whether the plan would ever be consummated. NO COMMENT MADE. BUT TALKS PROCEEDING. Received August 27, 9.35 a.m. LONDON, Aug. 26. Officials of Imperial Airways admit that talks are proceeding with PanAmerican Airways in respect to the trans-Pacific service. They add that it is largely a matter for Governments concerned, and it is impossible to comment on it.
