TRADE IN WHEAT.
CANADIANS’ CONCERN. OTTAWA, Aug. 23. While Government officials label as guesswork reports that United States wheat is to be allowed free access to United Kingdom markets under the new trade pact, the Canadian Press states that there is a feeling here that the reports may turn out to be the handwriting on the wall and that Canada may lose her preference. Canadian ports are particulaily anxious, as the loss would mean there would be no longer a need for earmarking wheat via Canadian ports and much would be diverted to the United States. Port officials and the Winnipeg Exchange are bombarding the Government, demanding that determined efforts be made to retain the perference for this year at least.
