WELLINGTON COMPETITIONS
LOCAL SUCCESSES. A number of places in the annual festival of the Wellington Competitions Society were awarded, yesterday, to entrants from Palmerston North and district. Awards made were as follow: —Vocal duet, under 16, Betty Olsen and Dawn Olsen, 79 points, 3 (these children were placed equal with two competitors from Napier). Action song in costume, 7-9 years. Dawn Olsen, 76 points, 2 (this competitor was placed equal with another from Kaiapoi). Girls’ recitation, restricted, under 9 years, own selection, Beverley A. Wilson, Dawn Olsen, highly commended. Jig, 9-12 years, Coila Barrowman, 76 points, 1. Special vocal solo for pupils of registered teachers, 16-21 years, Miss Joan Barron (Foxton). highly commended, Miss Nancy Robertson, commended.
