(From Our Own Correspondent.) CARNARVON, June 22. The Women’/ Institute were fortunate that the afternoon cleared sufficiently. to allow them to attend at Mr Thomson’s house to witness an instructive demonstration of pruning fruit trees. Mr Thomson showed the different methods of pruning an apple, plum and peach trees; grafting and budding were clearly explained. It was voted one of the best demonstrations hold by the institute. The ordinary meeting was held in the house beside a blazing fire. Mrs Gibbons presided over an attendance of 19, apologies for absence being received from Mesdames Luxford, Short, Pedlcy, Rose and Florence. The remits for the conference were discussed and the delegate, Mrs Thomson, was instructed how to vote. A new member, Mrs Bartlett, was enrolled. Mrs Gibbons explained that, owing to illness of some who had promised articles, for the entry at the Show, it had been decided not to stage tho entry. Mrs Will and Mrs C. McKenzie judged the eggless fruit cake. Mrs Fieldhouse was first, Miss Clare second, and Mrs Florence third, out of five entries. Members were , asked ..to bring their recipes for the new cookery book to the July meeting which, at the invitation of Mr 3 P. Scott, is to bo held at her house, members expressing thanks to Mrs Scott for her invitation. The secretary was instructed to write a letter to Rev. Mr McKay, Bulls, expressing sympathy with him in his illness. Mrs Gibbons thanked all who had helped with the recent “500” evening, also Mr and Mrs Thomson for kindly, giving members an opportunity of learning about pruning. The roll-call, “Where I met my husband,” was the cause of much merriment. After afternoon tea served by Mesdames Thomson, Fieldhouse and Miss Will, the meeting closed. The programme for next month is: Competitions, “Something new from something old,” and best flower from the garden; demonstration, footstool from 2lb treacle tin and limerick of five lines; hostesses, Misses Teague, Ayers and Powell. Mr Gibbons, senr., is staying with his son, Mr J. Gibbons. There was an attendance of 20 at the ping pong practice last night.
