SOUTH AUSTRALIAN PROTEST. DEMONSTRATION MEETING. VISIT .OF ITALIAN CRUISER. ■; (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) Received February 28, 10.50 a.m. ADELAIDE, Feb. 28. There were only a handful of spectators on the wharf when the Italian Cruiser Maimondo Monte Cuccoli arrived from Hobart, but about 600 persons attended a demonstration organised by the South Australian Council Against War and Fascism as a protest against the cruiser’s visit. The meeting carried a motion protesting against the action of the Premier (Mr R. L. Butler) in inviting “these agents of Signor Mussolini to this State and entertaining them with the taxpayers’ money.” THE DUCE CRITICISED. MR ATTLEE’S ADDRESS. LONDON, Feb. 26. The Leader of the Opposition (Mr GV It. Attlee) addressing the Oxford University Labour Club, described Signor Mussolini’s - position as that of a bankrupt dictator, spreading his troops over a wide area, whose economic position was rotten, whose credit had vanished, who was unable to bargain, so that even after six years the National Government of England should be able to com© to an arrangement with him. Mr Attlee said the appointment as Mr Eden’s, successor of one safely stowed in the House of Lords was a measure of Cabinet’s belief in popular representation. Labour would challenge that the country possessed forces strong enough to drive Mr Chamberlain from office.
