SWIMMING CARNIVAL.

NEW MANAWATU RECORD. In need of money for the purpose of lengthening the Municipal Baths to regulation dimensions, the Feilding Amateur Swimming Club held a carnival on Saturday evening. Unfortunately, rain commenced to fall shortly before the programme was timed to start and the attendance was not as large as was expected. Except for one shower, the events were got off. without rain. Competitors were present from Dannevirke, Levin, and Palmerston North. The patron of the club (Mr J. Gordon Eliott) welcomed those present and stated that it was unfortunate that the weather was unfavourable. Mr Eliott explained that the proceeds of the carnival were in aid of a fund for the lengthening of the baths, and he appealed to the people of Feilding and supporters of swimming to assist the club in its objective. “We have every hope that when tho baths are of standard size the New Zealand Swimming Association will allot certain of the New Zealand championships to be decided in Feilding,” he said.

Mr Eliott also thanked the members of the Feilding Pipe Band for their attendance and the business people for liberal donations of trophies; also the officials and visiting competitors for their assistance. He announced that at the next carnival it was hoped to have Misses Leydon and Rix, who have just returned from the Empire Games, present. Later in the even-
