ASSOCIATION MATCHES. The Feilding Cricket Association’s senior competition games were resumed on Saturday afternoon, when the last matches in the second round were played in fine weather, although rain threatened on several occasions and a quarter of an hour after time rain commenced to fall. On No. 1 ground Colyton faced Public Service, the latter batting first, while on the other field Feilding won the toss and batted first in their match with Old Boys. COLYTON v. PUBLIC SERVICE. The country »team opened their initial innings with Sinclair and Whitehead. The former was accounted for by Barltrop before he had a chance to open his account, but his partner went on in company with Salmond to

knock up a score of 59. He was run out. Salmond made 35 and lost his wicket to McClure, who took a beautiful catch off Smith’s bowling. The best efforts in addition to the aforementioned were those of Hocken and Reid, who made 23 and 16 runs respectively. The innings closed for 178 with Power not out 6. Liddell took 3 for 17, Barltrop 3 for 62 and Smith 2 for 50. Public Service opened with Hart and Monteith, but the combination resulted in only four runs, Hart going out with “a duck” and his partner with four runs. Smith and Janies followed and the partnership proved a tough proposition despite the failing light. They went on to score 61 and 65 respectively and were still in when an appeal against the light was upheld shortly before 6.30 p.m. Requiring only 23 runs to draw equal with their opponents’ score, and with only two wickets down, a win on the first

innings for Public Service is almost certain. Details are as follow: COLYTON.
