PAHIATUA.
PAHIATUA, Nov. 20. Mrs L. T. Herbert, of Pahiatua, has as her guest, Mrs S. Hunter, of Christchurch: Mr and Mrs C. Davies are touring Hawke’s Bay. Mr D. L. Comrie, of the Pahiatua branch of the Bank of New Zealand, is spending his annual leave in Wellington. An Auckland visitor to Pahiatua is Mr G. Tnnes. Although still in a serious condition, Mrs G. Kershaw* continues to make good progress in the Paliintua Hospital. Mrs Koce, of Eketahuna, is showing a considerable improvement after her recent operation. Airs Hodgson the mother of Mrs G. Lowry, of Pahiatua, is critically ill. The following officers were elected at the annual meeting of the Hukanui Tennis Club: Patron. Air A. Lawrence, senr.; president, Air AV. Twentyman ; vice-presidents, Alessrs E. R. Hunter, R. AV. Foes, A. G. Parker; auditor. Air A. G. Parker; lion, secretary, Air A. F. Lawrence: management committee, Airs E. J. Sutherland, Alisses A. Golder, A. R. Lawrence, Q. Harrington, Alessrs P. Twentyman, R. AV. Foss, R. Udy; match committee. Miss A. Lawrence, and Messrs R. Udv and AV. Twentyman; social committee. Airs J. Sutherland, Alisses A. R. Lawrence, Ai Golder and Q. Harrington. A mail contractor in the Pahiatua district received a shock when he placed his hand in a farm postal \ box to clear it of a halt-built nest. A starling flew up his sleeve and it was, some time before it could be disloged. The seventh birthday function of the Hamua AVomen’s Institute took the form of a dance. Extras were contributed by Airs AlcDonald and Miss K. Mabey and Air Husband. A play was given by the Drama Circle, those taking part being Misses AI. Bailey, I. Cavanagh, J. Ryan, L. Udy and J. Sorenson. The president (Mrs Hobbs) was presented with a bouquet, and the vice-presidents and Secretary received posies.
