FEW CASUALTIES
LONDON, Aug. 29:
Tile Loyalist advance in Aragon, particularly along the Teruel front, continues irresistibly, states a message from Saragossa. Loyalist casualties during the week were far lower than those of the insurgents. The Government troops are undergoing a second great test and they are fighting magnificently. They have completely surrounded Belchite and have captured a number of towns and villages north, south and east of Saragossa.
FALL OF SANTANDER,
FURTHER SURRENDERS.
SANTANDER, Aug. 28. Remaining Government commanders around Santander have surendered without resistance.
The total number of prisoners is now 34,000, three shiploads of whom will ho despatched to Castrourdiales to facilitate feeding.
RIFLES FROM GERMANY
BIG CONSIGNMENT
Received August 30, 11.30 a.m. LISBON, Aug. 29. The first consignment of Mauser rifles from Germany, valued at £700,000, was distributed to regiments stationed in the capital. Millions of new type cartridges were delivered and ten million more are due on September 1. Local factories are installing plants in the hope of increasing sevenfold the output of ammunition in 1938. The total cost of rearmament is £2,000,000.
