AMAZING SCENES
RECEPTION TO ACTOR. INCIDENTS IN LONDON. HOTEL BESIEGED. (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) Received August 30, 11.50 a.m. LONDON, Aug. 29. The reactions arising from the hysterical reception to the actor, Mr Robert Taylor, ihclude the appearance of hundreds of film-struck women, many with greying hair, who despite their aching hearts and feet besieged Claridge’s Hotel, hoping for his appearance. But the only Robert they saw was one in a blue uniform, who told them that their idol was not at the hotel, having gone to Paris. One disheartened girl declared her intention of concentrating on Tommy Farr, the British boxer.
Mr Walter Newling, a former Mayor of Eastham, says that not only were the women welcomers “badly let down, but they let down England and Englishwomen.”
