MINIATURE RIFLES.
SOUTH ISLAND TOURNEY
Per Press Association. TIMARU. Aug. 29,
The South Island miniature rifle championships were held here last night, particularly fine shooting being witnessed. There were 18-5 entries for the individual championship, competitors coming from Greymouth, Christchurch, Oarnaru and Invercargill. Twenty-five teams competed in the teams championship and there were 24 competitors in the women’s championship. The Roberts target with the metric inner bull was used, and this probably accounted for the large number of possibles recorded. In the individual championship there were no fewer than 23 possibles, nine of which were counted out of the prize list. In the championship aggregate there were six double possibles and 20 with one point down. In the women’s championship, Misses Stewart, Gleniti, and Rule, Orari, tied with 157, and on a re-check Miss Stewart won. Mrs Brown, Pleasant Point, was third with 156. In the men’s championship six tied, and on a re-check W. Bradshaw, Timaru, won. W. He.ads, Timaru, was second, and G. Campbell, Oarnaru, third.
The teams championship was won by Timaru A with 398, which included four possibles. United, Christchurch, and Weston, Oarnaru, were equal second with 397.
