YOUTH LABOUR.
CONDITION IN FACTORIES. LONDON, Aug. 28. Mr Lawrence Campbell, secretary of a conference of youth trade unionists under the auspices of the Trades Council, which was attended by 300 delegates, said London had become the centre of light industries employing lads and girls under frightful conditions. Intensive speeding up was leading to accidents, long hours and dismissal at 21. Many establishments were seething with revolt, but the trades unions were powerless. A few good strikes would transform these jungle factories. Miss E. Mann endorsed these allegations and. said thousands of young factory workers were involved.
