BETTER HEALTH

PROBLEM OF MALNUTRITION. CHALLENGE AND OPPORTUNITY. FINDINGS AT GENEVA. (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) (British Official Wireless.) Received August 30, 8.5 a.m. RUGBY, Aug. 27. The newspapers print lengthy summaries, accompanied by editorial comment, on the final report of the League of Nations Committee on Nutrition, which is regarded as a comprehensive and authoritative statement on a subject of importance. The committee declares: “The malnutrition which exists in all countries is at once a challenge and an opportunity,” and urges that improved health, achieved by better standards of nutrition, will be accompanied by increased efficiency, welfare, and happiness. More protective foods—milk, fruit, and vegetables-—should be consumed in place of energy-giving cereals and sugar. The report calls attention to malnutrition amongst the poorer classes and considers the effects on agriculture of State action to remedy the situation on the lines suggested. Agriculture must also be adapted to the increasing demand , for protective foods.
