Mr and Mrs W. E. Barber, of Motuiti, Foxton who are at present spending a holiaay in the East, have arrived at Tokio.

A Gazette notice states that Mr J. C. Fagan has been appointed a trustee of the Sandon Public Park in place of Mr L. C. Ellerm, who lias resigned. The election of the growers’ representatives on the New Zealand \Vool Publicity Committee at 'Wellington yesterday resulted: Mr H. D. Acland (Christchurch), Sir William Perry (Masterton), Messrs B. E. Tripp (Timaru) and G. O. Warren (Barfield). The first three are sitting members. There were nine candidates. The new committee takes office on October 1. — Press Association.

Mr W. M. Milliken, of Auckland, has been notified by the GovernorGeneral, Lord Galway, that lie Ims been appointed to the British Colonial Service in Nigeria, Africa. Mr Milliken, who is managing clerk to Baxter, Shrewsbury 'and Milliken, barristers and solicitors, Ims a brilliant scholastic and athletic record. He was a member of the Auckland University College first fifteen, 1930-33. He gained a University College blue and was an Auckland Rugby representative from 1931 to 1933 and a New Zealand University representative in 1933. He left the college with a university bursary. After four years of university work he was awarded the Hugh Campbell Scholarship for the student obtaining the best average over a fouryear LL.B. course. In 1931 he graduated LL.B., and in the following year LL.M. He was admitted a barrister and solicitor of the Supreme Court of New Zealand in 1933.

A period of forty-six years’ service with the New Zealand Railway Department, the past nine years of which ha.ve been spent at Levin, will terminate on Thursday next with the retirement of the stationmaster (Mr S. R. Stedman). Mr Stedman first entered the service of the Railway Department in 1891, when he joined the clerical staff of the Patea station, and in subsequent years spent varying periods in clerical positions at Aramolio, Ngahauranga, Napier, Mangatainoka, and Cross Creek, before securing liis first appointment as a stationmaster at Otane in 1913. After spending seven years in that position he transferred to Napier for a period of six years. He was then in Eeilding for 18 months before finally transferring to his present charge' at Levin. Mr Stedman, who will ta.ke up his residence at Napier with Mrs Stedman, will be succeeded by Mr D. G. Law, at present senior clerk at Te Kuiti, and until Mr Law takes over, his duties will be carried out by Mr J. Mortensen.
