(From Our Own Correspondent.) FOXTON, Aug. 27. 'l'lio monthly meeting of the Foxton Chamber of Commerce was presided over by Mr A. Aleop (president). It was decided to press for the erection of State houses in Foxton. Mr M. E. Perreau reported on the recent visit of the Young Farmers’ Club to Foxton, and said he had received a letter from the organising secretary in which he returned thanks to the chamber and the people of Foxion for (ho hospitality extended to the 400 visitors. The writer said that the boys reckoned their visit to Foxton as one of the most outstanding in the itinerary. Mr 11. 1). Dawson reported that (ho Postmaster had informed him that there was no chance of the Post and Telegraph Department considering the. erection of additional post office boxes in Foxton ; the department had. in fact, been contemplating the removal of the .box outside the poll office as it was not a payable proposition. Mr Dawson was still strongly in favour of boxes being erected in Union Street and Avenue Road. It was decided to hold ■ the matter in abeyance.

Tile Herrington Golf Club drew with the Otaki team in a match for the Takapu Cup played on the local links on Wednesday, the results being Herrington 4 games: Otaki 4. The annual plain and fancy dress ball, organised by the members of All Saints’ Ladies’ Guild, was held in the Town Hall la c t evening. Visitors were present from Waikanae, Oroua Downs, and Shannon. There was a large number of children present, in addition to a good attendance of parents. A spot waltz was won by Barbara Ross and John Gasquoine. A bounteous supper was served by the Ladies’ Guild. Mr and Mrs R. Read entertained a number of their friends at a cheery party at their residence on Wednesday in honour of the birthday of Mrs Read’s mother, Mrs A. J. Devonshire. lanterns added a further note to the festive atmosphere. Cards, singing, dancing, and games whiled away the hours. At the supper table a feature was the beautiful birthday cake, make and iced by Mrs Read. Birthday greetings were extended to Mrs Devonshire. Mrs C. ” Vcndorc, of Manawatj Heads, left yesterday for Nelson where her bro-ther-in-law died the previous day. Miss A. McKenzie, of Wellington, is spending the vacation with her parents. Mr and Mrs W. It. McKenzie. Mr A. Murphy_ is visiting his parents, Mr and Mrs I'-. J. Murphy. Miss N. Bennett, of Wanganui, is spending a few days with Misses M. and E. Barber, -of Motuiti. Misses Joan Holland (Nelson) and Elsie Thompson (Wellington) are the guests of Mr and Mrs T. Y. Crotty. Mr J. Alexander, of Wellington, is the guest of Mr and Mrs S. Mattar. Mr D. Barron, of Lower Hint, is spending the holidays with Mr and Mrs D. R. Barron. Miss Joan Mason, of Auckland, is the guest of Mrs I*. C. J liyruie. Mr and Mrs E. Petersen, and family, of Wellington, arc visiting Mr and -Mrs J Martin.
