MEETING OE COUNCIL. OVERSEER’S REPORT. The report of the county overseer (Mr E. H. Eggers), presented at the monthly meeting of the Kiwitea County Council, to-day, was as follows: — “I regret that, owing to my continued illness, I have not been able to travel around the county during the past month. Nevertheless, I have kept in close touch and am pleased to report that all maintenance work has been carried out in a satisfactory manner. All the roadmen have, with the advice and assistance of Lit) councillors, carried out their respective duties in a conscientious manner. I am pleaded to report that my health is much improved, and I hope to be able to carry on again at an early date. “Cheltenham riding.—Grading work has been carried out on the sections of main highways and roads other than main highways ; the roadman hus attended to the usual maintenance work. 1 regret that the driver of the power grader is at present indisposed, and unable to attend to his work. I have arranged for the No. J i grader plant to attend to the necessary grading work on the main highways in the meantime. Kiwitea riding: The usual maintenance work lias received attention throughout the riding. Waituna riding: Grading work has been carried out. on No. 377 Main Highway and the eection of Pakihikura Road in the riding improved by the No. 2 grader plant. Narrow and short bends in the section of the KiwiteaTapuae Road, between the Waituna VaL Icy and Upper Beaconsfield Roads, have been widened and metalled and the work, which should be completed during the current week, will improve the road considerably. The roadmen have also assisted with similar work in the Peep-o-Day R.kl- - and maintenance work in the Ongo riding. Ongo riding: The section of No. 377 Main Highway has been kept trimmed by the power grader plant, and pothole repairs effected. Repairs at the ford and the work of replacing a culvert on Parorangi Road have been carried out. Some repair metal will be carted out on loads other than main highways by the county truck at an eaHy date. Kimbolton riding : The sections of Nos. 52 and 53 Main Highways have been kept in fair condition by the power grader plant, and additional work carried out in replacing culverts. Tho roadman has attended to the necessary maintenance work throughout the riding. Peep-o-Day riding: The usual maintenance work has been _ carried out on the section of No. 52 Main Highway. Cr. Beard and myself have appointed a new roadman for the eastern section of the riding, who should commence his duties this week. In the western section a considerable amount of grading woik lias been carried out by the No. 2 grader plant therebv considerably improving the road surfaces. The widening of narrow bends has been completed for the time being, and a good coating of metal placed on the widened sections by the county ’ trucks.*’
