The Aberdeen Angus Cattle Breedera’ Association wrote expressing the opinion that a grant (£8 8s) for assisting in bringing an Australian judge to the Royal Show should be larger. When the Royal Show had been held at Hastings a grant of £2O had been made.—lt was decided that £8 8s was the limit to which the association could grant a subsidy. Mr K. S. Giendinning, while thanking the association for his election to the general committee, asked by letter for leave of absence for three months as he is visiting America. —Received, and leave of absence granted. The managing-secretary suggested £/ a piece for the hire, transit and damage to be paid for. Mr E. W. Barnett (Tokorangi) thought the chariots should not be hired. The .attraction could become too popular and lose its “drawing power. He moved the chariots be not hired, nor sold in order to buy improved chariots. The motion was seconded by Mr B. McEweii. . It was pointed out that the chariots last used could be improved without having to build new ones. The motion was carried without dissent. r ~ Mr C. P. SECRETARY’S REPORT. The secretary-organiser (Mr Hugh Kissling) submitted the following report:—“l regret to report that our caretaker, Mr Parker, has been seriously ill for the past four weeks. For the last two days of the Winter Show Mr Parker should have been in bed, but very faithfully stuck togihjs job till the Show was over. The coimnittee will be pleased to learn that Mr Parker is now progressing satisfactorily and hopes soon to be about again. Despite his illness, lie has been able to see his assistants and various people who have used our buildings and no serious dislocation of our business has occurred. The clerical side of Mr Parker’s work i 6 thoroughly up-to-date, and I wish to express my appreciation of this fact. The finance committee authorised the appointment of an assistant caretaker and left the appointment to the president and myself. Mr G. H. Gills lias been engaged and we feel that Mr Parker will now have a thoroughly competent assistant who in time will be able to relieve Mr Parker whenever the occasion should arise.

“Winter Show.—The position as disclosed by the pro forma statement will, I think, be rather a pleasant surprise to most of the committee. In spite of two very wet days to start, the Show, the financial result i 6 very nearly equal to that of last year, when fine weather reigned for the six days. A feature of the expenditure is the reduction of £264 in the item ‘general expenses’ which includes all the cost of ring .attractions, staging of indoor exhibits, electricity, freight and cartage. “Since the year started 118 new members have been enrolled and 56 resignations have been received; thirtytwo life members have been elected. Cash received to date for annual subscriptions amounts to £1465. I hope it will be possible lor a special effort to be made to enroll more members before the Royal Show. In other Royal Show centres a. considerable number of people in neighbouring districts join specials for the Royial Show year. “Grandstand Fund. —The total to credit of this account is now over £SOO. Several transfers will require to be made before . the exact figure is available. Of this amount the following has been received this year:—A. and P old-time ball, £225: Coronation ball donation, £47 10s; raffles and sundries, £150.” . , - The report was adopted. It was decided to forward a letter of sympathy to Mr Parker, also expressing pleasure at his recent improvement. On the motion of the president a vote of thanks was accorded the office staff for “the enormous amount of time they put in” not only during the Winter Show, but also prior to it. A special vote of thanks was also passed to Mr W. A. Sutherland, who had insisted in the association s office. On the motion of Mr W. J. Croucher, a vote of thanks was accorded the Manawatu branch of the Pig Breeders Association and the Mnnawatu-Oroua lig Development and Recording Club for tlieir bacon display. Other votes of thanks were passed to Mr Parker (the caretaker), Mr W. A. Price (for his interest in promoting the chariot racing), Mr L. T. McLean (for- providing the bullocks for steer riding), Mr Scott (for providing the working bullocks), and those who assisted in the 'handling of the steer-riding arrangements, also to those in charge of the wood-cliopping contests and the Pig Marketing Association for the donation of five sides of bacon.
