details of the crash. Received July If). 1.25 p.m. NEW YORK, July 18. Professor Piccard’s flaming stratosphere craft crashed ou a hillside after attaining an .altitude of 11.000 feet. The instruments were saved. Professor Piccard asserted that the flight was experimentally successful and proved conclusively the feasibility of his 2000balloon ' craft. His face and hands were scratched in the swift drecent, through a patch of trees in order to avoid plunging into the Mississippi River. . Professor Piec.ard intends to make a second experimental flight before attempting tlio record.
