WOOL, SKINS AND HIDES.
PALMERSTON NORTH SALE. Competition was keen at the sale of wool oddments, sheepskins, hides and tallow held by Abraham and Williams, Ltd., at Palmerston North last Thursday. Values throughout were generally firm, but with a slight easing in values for some sorts comparing realisations with the sale of last month. Values for all grades of wool were firm. There was an easier tendency for sheepskins, values being »d to Id lower than last month s ieahsations. Salted skins were from . 3d to 6d lower. The values received for both ox and cow hides were v«iy firm on the last sale Calfskins, however, were easier 2d to, 2,d pei lb There was a further decline in tallow values of 2s to 3s per cwt. The following is the range of values : Wool.— Southdown, lGd to 16-d; fine hoggets, lod to lo*d; crossbred 144 d to 15-id; crutchings. Ist. 12d to l3Jd., locks and pieces, 8d to 9jd ; dead, 12d t0 Sheepskins.—Fine hoggets 13Jd to 14Jd; hoggets, 13Jd to 14* d; three-quarter-full wools, 14d to 14Jd; quai-ter-l.alf v.r. '.s. j3d to 14^1; crossbred damaged, IOJd to 12d; lambs 13d to 14d; salted quarter-half wools, bs to 8s fid; half-threequarter wools, 9s to 9s 3d. , Hides. —Ox heavy. Did to 10Jd ; medium, 9fd to 10fd: light, to 8J(1: cow. heavy. 8d to 9(d: medium. 8d to BJd; light, 7jld to BJd; yearlings, 12d to 13Jd; calf, light, Ist., lod. to 153 - 2nd., 14d to 15d; cut. 13)d to I4d. Tallow.— ln drums', Ist.- 22s to 235; in tins, Ist., 15s to 16s.
the conclusion of the fat sheep sale at* Burnside last week competition was purely speculative and prices showing a pronounced discount with rates obtaining in the earlier races, and in consequence passings over the final stages were frequent, something like 400 butchers’ descriptions being turned out. Iho sale terminated after 6 p.m. in the dark.
