GOLF BALL.

PALMERSTON NORTH CLUB. SECOND ANNUAL FUNCTION. When the Palmerston North Golf Club held its first annual ball last season it was such a success that this season’s function was keenly anticipated. In the Jade ballroom, last night, a large crowd of dancers in carefree mood whiled the hours away to bright music, the function being acclaimed a most enjoyable one. Large clusters of multi-coloured balloons hung overhead, the ballroom, with its green and gold walls and green hangings, providing an attractive setting. In the absence of the president (Air R. W. Cumberworth) and Airs Cumberworth, Air G. D. Fraser (vice-pre-sident) and Airs Fraser carried out the duties of host and hostess. Airs Fraser wore a smart frock of deep amethyst moire velvet, relieved with gold lame, with a gold tissue flower. The Alavor and Alayoress (Air and Airs A. E. Ata.nsford) u’ere present, the latter wearing a model frock of Persian rust satin and a white fur' coat.

Responsible for organising the function was a very capable committee, members of which were Meed antes A. J. Berryman. H. B. Free. E. Glendinning. R. C. Batchelor, Misses N. Stuart, R. Parkes, J. Brown, E. Mnffatt and J. Blackwood ; Messrs D. H. Cook, E. Wilson. E. Simpson, C Ciochetto and H. W. Mullaney (secretnrv). Mr J. Selvvyn was the efficient M.C, Among the committee ladies present were Mrs Berryman, who wore brown and beige lace with an autumn shoulder spray; Mrs Free, black and gold lame tunic frock; Mrs Batchelor, cherry velvet, white gardenias; Mass Stuart, powder blue lacquered taffeta, pink shoulder sprav; Miss Brown, pink taffet.a, gold lame, coatee; Miss Moffatt, picture frock of navy lacquered taffeta, f’pray of. red roses; and Miss Blackwood, gold satin. Two clever young performers, Neil Bruce and Patricia Vale, delighted the gathering with a ballroom demonstration of the quickstep. which they repeated when enthusiastically recal'ed. The exhibition was arranged by Mr R. J. McGarvie. These two contributors also presented a tap duo, arranged by Miss June Scott. Patricia made a sweet picture in a frock of white frilled .nether partner being in -conventional evening attire. , . . Mrs Manslord presented Patricia Vale with a posy and a box of chocolates and Neil Bruce with a box of chocolates, congratulating them on their items and musical honours were accorded them. Pleasure was also afforded by an exhibition of the slow lox trot and quickstep bv Mr McGarvie and Miss n'. McPherson,' the latter wearing white crinkled organdie with cherry trimmings, and Mr W. Riley and Miss T. Cooper, who was attired in black needlerun lace and silver. Among those present were: Mcsdames H. W. Mullaney, who wore flame taffeta, with gold lame trimmings; J. A.
