DAIRY ZONING

AIANAIVATU DISTRICT./ COMMISSION’S ACTIVITIES. The work of the Executive Commission of Agriculture in the immediate future was outlined by the deputy-chairman, Sir Francis Frazer, on the completion of the Commission s activities in the Waikato a few days ago. Sir Francis said the Commission was returning south and would shortly visit the .Manawatu district, which, in many ways, resembled the Waikato, in that' it was a district in which dairying was being intensively carried on and in which a large number of dairy companies were operating. The Commission, he said, had convened several meetings of representatives of competing companies in the Manawatu. A map had been prepared indicating the method by winch each company could retain its present volume of supply and with the supply drawn from a more compact area in each case. . Discussions that had been initiated on the West Cbast of the South Island had led to negotiations taking place among groups of dairy companies, continued Sir Francis. Jhe Commission expected to pay a. further visit to the West Coast shortly, and it was hoped that finality would then be reached. . A considerable measure of rationalisation of the dairy industry had been carried out in the Canterbury, Otago, and Southland districts, and further visits by the Commission were expected to" result in final adjustments beifig made. Pressure of work had so far prevented the commission from visiting the Wairarapa, but as soon as arrangements could be made the commission would extend its activities to that area. , ' Referring to the work the Com,mission had done, Sir Francis said that where rationlisation and zoning bad been in operation for a ppriod of months, dairy leaders had expressed appreciation of the improvement that had been effected.
