PAN-PACIFIC WOMEN.

CONFERENCE IN CANADA. Preparations for the fourth PanPacific Women’s Conference, which is to he held in Vancouver, Canada, from July 12 to 24 next year, are well advanced. Mrs T. E. Taylor, chairwoman of the New Zealand committee of the Pan-Pacific Women’s Association, has received advice that Mrs Gauntlet, of Japan, recently returned from a mission of goodwill from the women of Japan to the women of China and in spite of the strained relations between the Governments of these two countries it is confidently hoped that delegates from both will meet at Vancouver.

The conference theme will be “Practical ways and means of promoting peace.” To this end six topics and one special round table session on “The traffic in women in the Ear East” will form the basis of study for the conference. The topics will include:—“Youth Movements for Peace,” “The Traffic in Arms.” “The Technique of Forming Public Opinion,” “A Socialised Health Programme.” “The Adjustment of Education to Changing Social Conditions,” “Standards of Living,” and “Population Pressures in the Pacific.” Mrs Reishbetli, of "Western Australia, is international chairwoman for the subject of the “Traffic in "Women.” Dame Rachel Cvowdy, late of the League of Nations social section and a member of the British Arms Coinmission. will outline the study on “The Traffic in Arms.” Dr Ada Patterson, of New Zealand, has been asked to act as international chairwoman for “A Socialised Health Programme.” Mrs Marie Keesing, also of New Zealand, is in charge of a study on “Population Pressures.” Dr Georgina Sweet, of Australia, first Pacific vice-president, lias been working in the interests of the conference in England and at Geneva. Dr Mary Cady, executive secretary of the Young Women’s Christian Association in Honolulu, is the conference programme director, and Dean Bollert. dean of women at the University of British Columbia, will he chairwoman of the conference, and Miss L. Sullivan, of Dunedin, is to be the New Zealand topic director.
