HALCOMBE.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) HALCOMBE, Dec. 7. Members of the llulcombe Toning Club held a surprise party at tiro residence of Mr and Mrs it. J. Managli, who have recently returned from a honeymoon spent in Australia. An enjoyable evening was spent in dancing, singing, ping pong and parlour games. After an excellent supper had been served, the president of the Tennis Club (Mr K. \Y. Cowdrey) spoke eulogisticully ot the work that both Mr and Mrs Managh had done for the club, and asked them to accept a brass wood-box as a token of esteem, lie also, on behalf of the Hockey Club, presented them with a silver entree dish. Mr Managli replied and the festivities wci'o resumed. The New Year’s Jive Sports Club met on Friday evening for the purpose of arranging a programme and electing olliecrs for the coming sports. The president (Mr \V. S. Page) was in the chair. The oflicers appointed are: —President. Mr \Y. S. Page (re-elected); lion, secretary end treasurer, Mr M. Wisclmowsky (re-elected); assistant secretary, Mr L. Williams (re-elected); committee, Messrs I\ . Davies, Ji. \Y. Cowdrey, J. Curtis, A. MeNac, J. McKay, G. Burgess, J. S. Martin and F. M. Saywcll. The programme is to be practically the same as last year’s. At a meeting of the llalcombe branch of the National Party, despite the inclement conditions, there was a fair attendance. The president (Mr J. Hamilton) was in the chair. Several circulars from the parent body dealing with the activities of the party were read and discussed. Mr Hamilton briefly reported on the meetings he had attended in Feilding and slated that the Oroua branch was the most active in New Zealand, having the hugest number of members. Mr E. W. Barnett, who was one of the delegates who met lion. Adam Hamilton in Feilding recently, detailed what had been done and stated that he, personally, after meeting Mr Hamilton felt convinced that lie was the right man ill the right place. In order to meet expenses the following were appointed to act as a finance committe: —Messrs Y\ - S. Page, J. 11. Blunden, J. Hamilton, E. W. Barnett, I. McLennan, and T. Vile. On Saturday afternoon, tlie Stanway Tennis Club visited llalcombe for a friendly match. Until the rain finished piny for the day, late in the afternoon, the games played were most enjoyable. Afternoon tea was served in the old hall, where the club captain (Mr M. C. Amadio), welcomed the visitors, Mr I*,. Humphrey replying. No singles matches wore played and at the lime the games were abandoned the home time was leading by 9 sets to 1. Detailed results. llalcombe players mentioned first .-—Men’s doubles: M. C. Amadio and Miss M. Claphatn beat Misses D. Dunstan and N. Jefferies, 6—3. Mixed doubles: Amadio and Mrs Managli beat T.eet and Mrs Christian, 6—o; Long and Miss Wilson beat Humphrey and Miss Dernier, 6—4; Davies and Miss Rogers beat Craino and Miss Dunstan, 6—4; Lord and Mrs Amadio beat Christian and Mrs Harvey, 6—2. . Residents are reminded of the Tennis Cluli’s dance'to he hold in the Jubilee Hall on Wednesday evening. A strong committee is in charge and a pleasant evening is assured.
