WOODVILLE.

WOODVILLE, Dec. 5. Mr E. S. Holtlaway (Ballance) judged the entrants in the Calf Club competition at'the Ballance /School. Mr F. C. Brockett (instructor in agriculture to tile Wellington Education Board) represented the Education Department and the school committee was represented by the chairman (Mr L. S. Polglase). Seven competitors came before the judge, who placed the calves as follow: Dairy type: Colin Schroder’s Diamond 1, Rene Foster’s Buttercup 2, Geoffrey Croad’s Violet 3. Rearing and handling: Rene Foster’s Buttercup 1, lan Humphrey’s Snowdrop 2, Colin Schroder’s Diamond 3. The following children reared calves which were not placed: Frank Schroder, Cyril Humphrey and' Ray Schroder. However, both placed and unplaced competitors are eligible for the group competition, and all seven calves will he taken to Paliiatua for tliis purpose. Children from the Makomako School were present, Mr Garliek providing transport. Sir R. McKenzie thanked. Mr Holdaway for his services, Dir Brockett for being present, and Mr Garliek for bringing the visiting children.
