CLAN CAMERON

PALMERSTON NORTH BRANCH. The second gathering of the Palmerston North provincial branch of the Clan Cameron was held this week, Mr J. Q. Cameron presiding. The New Zealand organiser, Mr lan Cameron (Masterton) and Mrs Cameron attended and representatives were present from various districts. Mr lan Cameron, in explaining the objects of the society, stated that the movement was formed to bring together all the Camerons in the surrounding district, and it was proposed to raise funds to assist in safeguarding the estates of the Lochiel, Aclinacliarry Castle, Scotland, which are at the present time in a precarious financial position, in order that they may be preserved for the future generations of the clan. The election of officers for the ensuing year resulted: —President, Air J. Q. Cameron (Oroua Downs); lion, secretary and treasurer, Mrs A. M. Cook (Sanson); committee, Mesdames C. P. Nash and H. Somerville (Palmerston North), Messrs Colin Cameron (Newbury), Alisdair McDonald (Palmerston North), Keith Cameron (Marton), H. L. Cameron (Palmerston North), Dr. F. Cameron (Feilding), Messrs Keith Cameron (Marton), Colin Cameron (Shannon), G. McDonnell (Bulls), D. Cameron (Sanson), and J. D. Bulmer (Ashhurst). Owing to the small number of the clan resident in the Hawke’s Bay district. Messrs F. A. Cameron (Hastings) and lan Camei-on (Taradale) were appointed to represent that district on the Manawatu provincial council. Further rallies are to lie held in Palmerston North and preparations are well in hand for the great clan gathering which is to take place early ill the New Year in Wellington on tlm Orient liner Orama, which is commanded by Captain Evan Cameron. Appreciative reference was made to the work of the Dominion organiser, Air lan Cameron, and of the Palmerston North president and honorary secretary, Air J. Q. Cameron and Airs A. Al. Cook, respectively. Keen enthusiasm was shown by tho membeis who attended, which augurs well for the future success of the movement.
