OBITUARY

MR HENRY DAYSH. The death of Mr Henry Daysli, “Riverlands,” Dyerville, Martinborough, occurred at his residence on Thursday, at the ago of 77 years. Mr Daysli was born at Taita, and as a young man moved to the Forty Mile Bush district, where he was engaged in farming for about thirteen years. In 1909 lie took up his ‘ lviverlands” property in the Dry River district, which he had farmed ever since. He was successively a director of the Ballance and Rexdale dairy companies and chairman of the Otaraia Dairy Company for many years. Mr Dnysli was also a member and chairman of the Dyerville School Committee for a number of years. Other organisations which claimed his inter' est were the Wellington Enrly bettiers’ Association, the Wairarapa provincial executive of the F armers Union, the Wairarapa and East Coast P. and A. Society, . and the Wairarapa Patriotic Association. Mr Daysli was twice married, liis first wife being a sister of the late Mr T. H. Davey, for, many years member of Parliament for Christchurch East. Surviving children or the marriage are Mrs Campbell Smith, of Martinborough, and Mrs T. H. P. Davey, of Christchurch. A son, Mr Norman Daysli, died in Palmerston North some years ago. MiHenry Daysli is survived by Ins widow and one young son, Norman John, Mr Alfred Daysli, Clareville, is the only surviving brother of Mr Henry Daysli. MR JAMES ENTWISLE. The death occurred suddenly at Levin, yesterday morning, of Mr James Entwisle, formerly of Colyton. Mr Entwisle passed away at the residence of his daughter, Mrs H. G. Mackay. He was making his way to another room in the house when he collapsed. . Deceased, who was the eldest son of the late Mr and Mrs J. Entwisle, was born in 1856 in Worcestershire, England. Accompanied by his parents, he came to New Zealand at an early age, settling at Picton. Mr Entwisle commenced liis first work in the Kaituna district, Marlborough, where he was engaged in sawmilling and cartage contracting. He married, atHavelock in 1878, Miss Phoebe Farliell, and the commencement of tlio century saw them remove to the North Island, where lie followed farming pursuits at Colyton and later at Linton. Thirty years ago Mr Entwisle went to reside in the Levin district and had followed the progress of the town with interest. Mr and Mrs Entwisle celebrated their golden wedding in 1928 at the Village Settlement where they were living in retirement ; two years later Mrs Entwisle passed away. The deceased gentleman was struck by a ear on the Maiii ltoad some four years ago, and as a result of the accident lie liad the misfortune to lose his left leg. The late Mr Entwisle was very well known and highly respected in Levin. He is survived by five daughtei-s—-Mesdames A. E. Hallenberg (Petone), R P. Lester (Wellington), 1. H. Veale (Levin), H. G. Mackay (Levin), and M. Farrant (Auckland), and four sons —Messrs A. H. and Y\ J Entwisle (Cunninghams, Feilding), Charles (Weston, Oamaru), and Allen (Hamilton), while there are twentyfive grandchildren and seven greatgrandchildren. There are alsp three brothers—Messrs David (Feilding), Jack (Hamilton), and William (Devenport, Auckland). MR J. COTTER. There passed away, recently, Mr John Cotter, of Ihakara, Levin, a wellknown figure in the farming community of that district. Mr Cotter, who was 61 years of age, was born at Silverstream, and was married at Upper Hutt 37 years ago. Proceeding to the Levin district seven years later, lie settled in Wallace Road, and liad since resided there, with the exception of a short period spent at Bainesse, from which he returned to Ihakara about ten years ago. In addition to bis bereaved wife, he is survived by a grown-up family of three sons and five daughters. , _. . The funeral took place at the Levin cemetery on Wednesday, when the representative attendance of mourners who gathered to pay their last respect, testified to the esteem in which the deceased gentleman had been regarded. Prior to the cortege leaving the house, a short service was conducted by llev. J. C. Davies, who also later officiated at the graveside.
