MARTON, Nov. 26. A splendid display was presented at the annual Rose Show and Bazaar under the auspices of the Marton Methodist Church, which was opened today in the Civic Theatre by the Mayor (Mr F. Purnell). The following are the special awards; —Champion rose. Mrs Wrightson (Ohingaiti). Silver rose bowl, most points in roses: Mrs Wrightson. Most points in cut flowers: Mrs W. H. Sutton. Most entries in flowers: Mrs W. H. Sutton. Points decorative: Miss M. Lovell. Points, domestic: Mrs Ensom. ■ Largest variety of entries, domestic: Mrs Ensom. Points, industrial: Mrs Watts. Most entries, industrial: Mrs Watts. Points, children: Lorna Thomas (domestic) and Valmai Ball (decorative). Stallholders were as follow: Ice-cream. Misses 0. Decke and W. Decke; Greatford and Porewa, Mesdames W. Kingham and W. B. Winchcombe ; fancy, Mesdames Cuming and L. Stewart; produce, Mesdames N. Dickson, G. Harvey and C. Wadman; guild, Mesdames H. Pickford, A. H. Watts and Devonport; sweets, Bible class girls; afternoon tea and'supper, Mesdames W. Hamer, F. Prentice, E. G. Frederick, Moore, Powell and Miss Emcns; Christmas tree, Mrs Thorburn. As a sequel to an accident which occurred on March 11 last, J. H. McLean was charged in the Marton Magistrate’s Court with driving a car in a dangerous manner, thereby causing serious injury to a student of Nga Tawa School, Margaret R. Taylor. After hearing evidence the Magistrate (Mr R. M. Watson) dismissed the charge, hut McLean pleaded guilty to having defective brakes and was fined 30s with costs 12s.
