WOODVILLE.

WOODVILLE, Nov. 26. The Ballanee Women’s Institute celebrated its sixth birthday at the recent monthly meeting. Mrs Jas. Gibson (president) quoted the day’s motto; “We never know what ive can do till we try.” Mrs Charles Holdaway (delegate to the half-yearly council meeting) presented her report and a talk on Samoa was given by Mrs Sullivan (Woodville). Mrs J. H. Bremner and Mrs P. Humphrey provided afternoon tea. An artistic birthday cake made by Mrs Gibson and iced by Mrs Munting was a feature. A former member, Mrs Hugh Zeinert (Kohinui) who had journeyed to Ballanee, was requested to light the candjes on the cake, following which her son extinguished them. The president then cut the cake, which was handed round by the hostesses. The competition for the day was won by Miss Bremner. A pleasant interlude occurred when Mrs Nixon, treasurer of the Bush-Wairarapa Federation, offered heartv congratulations to the Ballanee Institute. She then presented the president (Mrs Gibson) and the secretary (Mrs Holdaway) each with a very charming posy.
