JEWELLERY RAID.

AUCKLAND INCIDENT

Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, Oct. 4

A smash and grab raid on the jeweller’s shop of T. 11. Martin in S.vmonds Street was carried out shortly after midnight on Friday, but with only minor success. The main front plate-glass window of tlie shop was intact at midnight, but not long after it was broken by someone who threw a piece of tile through it. The tile struck the window rather high up, making a hole about nine inches in diameter, through which it was somewhat difficult to reach the shelves on which jewellery of considerable value was displayed. As is the custom in most jewellers’ shops the most valuable articles are removed from the window at night, but had the tile shattered the window instead of merely making a hole watches, rings and other jewellery could have easily been taken. Only two watches of a combined value of under £5 were taken.
