WOMAN LAWYER.
EXPERIENCE IN BIG TRIAL
PRACTICE IN CHICAGO
Aiiss Aiatilda Fernberg, formerly assistant corporation counsel, Chicago (Ulinios) who is visiting Australia, was the first woman to matriculate at the Yale Law School. She said in an interview that she had been practising for 14 years. A protege of Air Clarence Harrow, she practised in the criminal jurisdiction at the beginning of her career, and in the first year defended six men who had been charged with murder.
She retired from Criminal Court practice, and was appointed assistant counsel to the Chicago Corporation, her duties being to defend the city in personal injury and similar cases. At present she is in general practice, dealing with cases such as divorce, chancery, and mortgage foreclosures. Divorce was easily procurable in the county of Ulinios, she said. They did not advertise that, as did Reno, Florida, and other parts of the world, but divorces could be obtained in one day.
Miss Fernberg said that in the United States innumerable women were Federal Bench Judges. “Women no longer grow old as - before,” added Aiiss Fernberg. “They dress better, care for themselves, and are in better health.”
