AWAPUNI NOTES. HORSES FOR FOXTON. (By “Spectator.”) The overnight rain made the tracks at Awapuni very heavy for the hnai gallops for the Foxton meeting this morning. Water was lying everywhere, and old-timers stated that they had never before known the course to he so heavy at this time of the year. Under the circumstances the times recorded were not of much value. A number of horses making the tup to Foxton were worked and added to the interest of proceedings. G W New worked his horses early. Vonia Park (Chaplin), Martara (Tattersall), and Pickmeup (Mansfield) set out on a sprint over four furlongs. Vonia Park and Martara were too good for their companion, running the distance in 57sec, with Pickmeup three lengths back. Martara is engaged in the Moutoa Hack at Foxton, but may be short of a race. Pickmeup is to take his place in the Trial Stakes Dawning Light was not paid up for at Foxton, and was not on the track this morning. W. Pine with Dungarvan and Cloudy Bay put in an appearance. The former did a round at threequarter pace and the latter four furlongs in 62sec, Tattersall having the mount on each occasion. Both are in good order for Foxton. Golden Nymph (McCormac) and Corroboree (Chisholm) cut out five furlongs in 1.16. Golden Nymph is improving and may show up in the Trial Stakes at Foxton. . Miss Pango (Tattersall) ran six furlongs, the last five in 1.17. The brother to Ringshot (Lackham —Musket Vein) in J. Kelly’s stable was on the track, but was not bustled. Ho is owned by Mr IV. Grey, of Auckland, and the name of Hotshot has been claimed for him. J. Kelly has a half-sister to this colt to be prepared later on She is by Philamor. 'Round Score (McCormac) was timed to run half a mile in 1.5. Hunting Lodge (Stratton) in the same stable, looking very well, broke 1.20 for five furlongs. Old Surrey (Rae), owned by Mr L. H. Collinson, and Laggard (Browne) did the last four of five furlongs in 69 3-osec.

Taumau (Mansfield), who looks in good fettle, did four furlongs in 59sec. Saltspray (McDonald) refused to go off alone until Mrs McDonald mounted a horse and accompanied him to the six furlongs post. When the hurdler got away he went well, cutting out the six furlongs in 1-30 3-5. The two-year-olds Wild Flower (Browne) and the Laughing Prince colt in Mrs McDonald’s stable went down to the seven furlong post and did a smart two furlongs in 27sec. Mr R. J. McDonald, owner of the Laughing Prince colt, has forwarded three names to tho Racing Conference for his colt. Kookakurra is the one he would prefer, but as alternatives Laughing Chief and Terry Toon have also been sent.

Severe (Tattersall) ran five furlongs nicely in 1.16. Morrath (McDowell) and Nightrunner (McDonald) recorded 1.35 for six furlongs. Morrath is engaged in the steeplechase event at Foxton and should run well.

Finnesko (Rae) accomplished seven furlongs in 1.45. Princess La Jean, who is a trifle sore in one of her legs, did her wcfvk at three-quarter pace. She may have to miss her Foxton engagement. Silent Acre, not Crown Acre, is the horse accepted for the Trial Stakes at F oxton. RIDING ENGAGEMENTS. Riding engagements for Foxton include:—S. Anderson, Round Score, Gold Nymph, Bodyline.
