BUNNYTHORPE, July 14. (From Our Own Correspondent.) The interment of the late Constable E. C. Sutherland took place at the Bunnythorp) Cemetery on Friday afternoon, when there vv as a very large gathering of mourners. A fine tribute was paid by tho police. On entering the cemetery the pallbearers wero led by two members of the .Vlana-, watu Pipe Band, Piper-Major Nicholson and Piper Cruden, who played a. lament to the graveside. A moat impressive service was conducted by Rev. J. S. Pate, of Palmerston North. On Sunday afternoon the funeral of the Into Mr and Mrs R. Currie took place. A short service was held at tho residence of Air and Mrs R. Stewart, and the caskets were then convoyed to tho Methodist Church. and then to the Bunnythorpe Cemetery, the services being conducted by Rev. C. A. Foston, of Aslihurst, assisted by Rev. R. E. Fordyce, of Sanson. Among the many old friends present was Mr Aidrich. of Hawkc’e Bay, Mr S. Matheson, of Gisborne, and Mr J. Gillies, of Petone. There were many floral tributes. Mr and Mrs Currie had lived an ideal Christian life and were held in the highest esteem. The junior football match, St. Patricks versus Bunnythorpe, took place on Saturday afternoon. It was a hard forward game. From tho kick-off Bunnythorpe carried all before them and It. Mitchel dashed over to score. This was followed by 13. Howard (St. Patrick’s) scoring, lb esc being the only scores in tho first spell. The second spell resulted in E. Norris and 11. Shirman (2) scoring for St. Patrick’s and Hohir converted the last try. The game resulted: St. Patrick’s 14, Bunnythorpe 3. Mr J. Pinfold controlled the game The Bunnythorpe and Taonui school football teams played a friendly, match on Friday afternoon, resulting: Bunnythorpe 21, Taonui 0. The final shoot for the president’s trophy (three shoots with two to count) resulted: E. Bailey 273, R. Jones 273. They will shoot off to decide the winner.
