PREPARATIONS PROCEED. . FOR GREAT SOCIAL EVENT. There was • a good attendance of ladies and gentlemen at a meeting held last night over which Mr Jos. Batchelar, president of the Manawatu and West Coast A. and P. Association, i. presided. Mr W. H. Brown reported on the decorations proposed and a sub-com-mittee was set up comprising Mr J. W. Muir (city electrical engineer). Mr Mclror and Mr Brown to bring down a sell cm o for approval at next meetin|| r C. G. Perrin wa.s apnointed treasurer of the ball committee. Mrs Mansford reported on behalr ot the ladies’ supper committee that a large number of ladies would aitenn to this important part of the effort. Promises of assistance wero coming in freely and the supper would bo m every way similar to that at the charity balls of past years, with four sittings of 350 guests at one time. It was decided that there would bo no invitations issued, but that tickets would bo on sale almost at once at local business houses, hairdressers ami from members of tho ball committee and the A. and P. Show Committee. Mr J. Linklater accepted the portion of convener of tho decorations committee. This will bo a largo body of workers as it is hoped to complete tho decorations of tho _ dance hall, lounge and supper-room m one week. Tt was decided to hold the next meeting of the general committee on Tuesday next, July 21, when full reports from all sub-committees will L> R presented. . _ . r The wonderful lighting effects ot previous charity balls'will be incorporated with new features in this great A. and P. ball. , . Already considerable interest lias been aroused in the ball over a large area, and it is anticipated that a record attendance will a.vail themselves of the opportunity to assist too A. and P. Association to repair its grandstand' and to thoroughly enjoy themselves at a brilliant social event.
