Airs TV. Sc’ott, of Belnheim, is visiting her sister, Airs F. W. Suttcn, of Robinson Street. The friends of Mrs A. Lee, who injured her spine when she slippod at her homo in Avenue Road, some weeks ago, will bo pleased to learn that she is making satisfactory progress. Mr 11. D. Dawson was voted to the chair. It was decided to form a club, to be known as the Foxtcei Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club and to affiliate with' the Palmerston North sub-centre. Officials were elected as follow: Patron, Mr O. J,. Hunter, M.P.; president, Air J. Preston; committee, Messrs At. F. Pelican, 11. D. Dawson, J. Sutlierlcy, O. King, W. Howe with power to add; secretary ml treasurer, Mr A. llinds.

At llie annual meeting of the Fo>;ton Girl Guide and Brownie committee, the resignation of Aliss J. Ross from the committee was received with regret-. The report for llie year eiidiig June 30, 1936, stated that two shop days were held which proved to be most successful financially. A donation of £3 from tile Levin Company, when it disbanded, was gratefully received. The report of the Guide company was read by the capta n (Miss G. Allen). The balance-sheet was also read and adopted. The election of officers for the ensuing year resulted as follows President, Mrs D. R. Barron; vice-president, Mrs S. R. Austin; secretary, Miss J. Cowley. The opportunity was taken by Mrs 8. Austin to make a presentation to Aliss M. Barron, who is leaving the district The president, Airs Barron, welcomed Miss F. Barber, who is to succeed Miss Barron as Brown Owi and thanked her fur coming forward to carry on Hie Brownie work. A welcome was also extended to Aliss 11. Hinds, who is # gomg to join as a Tawny Owl. A social under the auspices of tile 1 resbyteiiin Ladies’ Social Guild was held last evening. Air R. T. Betty, choirmaster, made two presentations on behalf of the choir, to two members, Alisses Al. Barrm and U. Thomson, who are leaving the district. Tho presentations consisted of two beautifully bound copies of the “Church Praise.” At Boston Park, to-day, Foxton Rugby seniors defeated Waimoha by 29 points to 16.

A fortunate escape from a serious- accident was experienced by Mr M. B. Bcrgin and the occupants of his ear when motoring along the Whirokino highway adjacent to the Main Drain on Saturday evening. On turning a bend of the highway a back tyre came off and the car toppled over on it's side into the water. The occupants spent an unenviable few minutes before being released, but beyond the shock and some minor bruises and .abrasions, and. an involuntary cold bath, nothing more serious happened. The occupants of the car. besides Mr Bcrgin, were his wife and Mesdames J. ltobinson and Wvllie. FOXTON, July 13.

At a suitable juncture during the course of the lesson at the Presbyterian Sunday School on Sunday morning the opportunity was taken to farewell Miss Margaret Barron, superintendent of the Sunday school, who leaves Foxton at an early date. ‘Mrs J. Hess, former superintendent of the Sunday school for many years, on behalf of the teachers and pupils,, made reference to Miss Barron’s work as superintendent and, after wishing her every success, called on her to accept a small token of affection from the teachers and pupils. The opportunity was also taken to make presentations to two other teachers, Misses A. McKenzie and U. Thomson, who have resigned from their positions.
