POHANGINA v. ASHHURST

POHAXGINA. July 11. Teams representing the Ashlnirst and Pohangina Valley Defence llifle Clubs met on the Ruumai range on Saturday in the first round of the match for the I’arlies Cup. the contest being held over ranges of 300, 500 and 600yds. Anhlnirst proved lo be superior, the final scores being 929 to 916. Averages scores: Ashlnirst, 92.9; Poliangina Valley, -91.6. The top scores of the day, 100 points, were registered by D. Bnlmer and I. Neill, this being the highest three-range score yet secured at the local butts. D. and A. Balrner secured possibles, the former at 500yds and the latter at 600yds. This is the first possible at the longer range recorded for many years. Tho weather conditions did not favour the occasion, tho day being wet and so misty that the targets were at times completely obscured, while a varying right drift helped to make for bad shooting conditions. The visitors’ scoring was a very creditable achievement in view of the prevailing conditions and, on behalf of the local team. AJr H. Fitzherbcrt warmly congratulated them on their win. Air W. Romlcy returned thanks on behalf of the Ashlnirst team. Delails of the scoring arc as follow:
