CHICHESTER FLIGHT
CANNOT CROSS RUSSIA. ADVICE FROM SOVIET. Per P--rss Association. WELLINGTON, July 13. In a message from Narrabai, Mr F. C. Chichester, who, with Mr F. D. Herrick, of Hawke’s Bay, is flying to Europe via the Far East and Russia, states that on July 1 they received a “knock-out blow” in the shape of a cablegram from the British Ambassador at Moscow, reading: “The Soviet Government state that your application cannot bo granted owing to a general decision, of which this is the first intimation, to prohibit flights across the whole extent of tho u.s:s.r.”
“When we received a permit without demur from Mnnchukuo wo expected no troubio at all about Russia,” writes Air Chichester. He adds that tho two airmen intend to continue to Pekin and sco what can ho arranged when they have arrived thore. They expect to arrive at Pekin early in August. It will he a great disappointment to both fliers if they are unable to carry through their project of a flight across Siberia.
