ROYAL CONTRIBUTIONS

King Edward-lias sent £974, the proceeds of the sale ot the fittings of the yacht Britannia, as a further contribution to the King George Memorial Fund.
Carrying out tlic expressed wish of His late Majesty King George, his famous rac,ng yac-nt iiiiiaimia was lowed to sea and sunk in the English Channel. Many suggestions were made regarding her disposal for use for charitable or instructional purposes, but were rejected because her (ate owner preferred her to be sunk after being stripped of all fittings, and she went, to “Davy Jones’s locker” as a sheer hulk. Sir Philip llunloke, -who usually steered the yacht ill her races, and a few others accompanied the yacht on her final trip to sea in a, rainstorm, but there was no ceremony. The Britannia was built by G. L. Watson in 1893 on , the Clyde. During her racing career she won 231 first- and 129 other prizes for 625 starts. King George called her him self in her last race during the Jubilee celebrations at Cowes last August, when she won against the former America Cup challenger. Shamrock V., and other big boats of the J class.
