NEAR CRASH
LORD SEMPILL’S FLIGHT. SUPERHUMAN EFFORTS WHEN ENGINES STOP. (United Press Association—By ElectricTelegraph.—Copyright.) Received July 14, 9.30 a.m. LONDON, July 13. The Sun-Herald Service has been informed that a defect in the petrol feed twice caused a stoppage of Lord Sempill’s aeroplane engines while on his flight to Australia. Only superhuman efforts on the part of Ills mechanic saved a crash.
The extra tanks have been scrapped and new auxiliary petrol carriers are being fitted. Lord Sempill, who turned back while over Aust in due to a defect in the wing fabric, is not likely to start for Australia for at least two weeks.
