The monthly meeting of tlie Women’s Institute wa* held on Wednesday. Mrs Gilshnan presided over a cood attendance. Arrangements were completed for the birthday afternoon and dance to be held next month. In order to augment the finds for the sending of a delegate to the conference, a card afternoon is to be bold in the hall towards the end of the month, a small admission charge to. be made Members and visitors were cordially invited to attend. The schedule for the flower show was discussed and a provisional schedule will be ready for the next meeting. An interesting demonstration on brass-,work was given by Mrs Oliver, of Oroua Downs, and a hearty vote of thanks was accorded her. The nunthly competition for the seniors, the best plate of shortbread, was won by Mrs t liowcn, and, in the juniors, tor the best plate of scones, by Miss 1. Anderson. Tlie hostesses were Mcsdamcs Orr and L. Atkinson and Miss N. Field. As next me nth secs tlie birthday meeting, the programme will be the same as for other years—members a plate, a bran tub for members’ children under school age, and a social afternoon.
Congratulations arc extended to members of the Aokautore Miniature Hide Club on their list of successes at the recent Manawatu championship meeting, held at Fcilding. The three grades, A, B and 0, were won by club members: A. Brill retained the A grade championship with a line total of 237 out of a, possible score of 240. The B grade championship was won by L. Rix, with a total .of 231. F. X. Andrews was one point behind. In the O grade the championship went to B. Mitchell, with a total of 221. Although the local team did not w n the teams match, several individual members shot well and were in the prize list for the various matches. The scores registered were: —A grade: A. Mrs 11. Hill is at resent on holiday in Wellington. Mr and Mrs Tx. W. Field and family have gone on a holiday trip to Auckland, Mr ;nd Mrs W. Gosling, senr., are in Wellington for race week.
