A DRAWN GAME.

OLD BOYS AND FEILDING A

There was not much to enthuse over in the match between Old Boys and Feilding A on the oval. There were several attempts at passing rushes, but generally thov broke down through faulty handling. The game resulted in a draw, which fairlv represents the merits of flic teams on the day’s play. The following were the teams: — ’' ■

Feilding A kicked off and had the better of the earlier exchanges. Later, from a penalty in front of the goalposts. Sutherland made no mistake, and the yellows were three points up. 1,. Bradley and Moffatt participated in a passing bout down the side-line, and an infringement gave Betteridge a chance, but his kick went wide. Feilding attacked strongly. Waldin being to the fore. but Betteridge, when hotly pressed, eased the situation with a mark. A nice piece of passing. in which all the black packs took part, saw Thompson score a fine try. Betteridge failed to convert. Another passing bout, started by R. Bradley, went to the twenty-five Hag. where Thompson was pushed out. Fending pressed for a time,• but Thomas took Gio ball back to half-way with some fine forward work. B. Bradley worked the blind side and L. Bradley broke awav, but he was well grassed by E. McCorkindale. G. McCorkindale outpaced two pursuing blacks to the bail from a long kick and touched down, the kick at goal failing. Leliding no;a.in attacked and G. McCorkindale was nearlv over, losing the hall over the line, and Old Boys forced. Ihompson out Old Boys on the attack with a

good run, but Ijo was well tackled by U. McCorkindalo, who a few minutes later, with a fine run, had only Bctteridge to pass for a certain score, but the black full-back made no mistake with his tackle. Fcilding were attacking hotly and Nicol cut through nicely, but threw the ball wildlv and an opportunity was lost. Betteridge brought relief with a strong line kick. The blacks eve nod up the scores just on half-time when Thompson made a spirited run, lieat his man, passed to Thomas, who was handy, and he went over. A good kick by Betteridge went just outside the posts. The early play in the second half was noticeable for a fine jinky run by RBradley,.who out through the opposition from a scrum and ran well down, but there was no one in support. A period of close forward play followed, but eventually Montgomery, who followed up a kick, was just beaten for the touch down. Fcilding had the better of the game for some tune, but could not penetrate the defence. Betteridge’s good boot once again came to the rescue, and L. Bradley was off down the line, hut \Y. MoCor'kiiidale brought him down. Passing among the Old Boys’ backs let L. Bradley away, but a iorward pass halted the movement. W. McCorkindalo essayed a penalty at goal, hut it missed. ]{' Bradley fed the blind side, but his brother failed to take the pass. Moffat was tried with a penalty kick at goal but he was no more successful than Betteridge. Old Bovs enlivened proceedings with a bright piece ot passing, but a poor transfer by Olhver spoiled the movement. The blacks were on top at this 6tage, but weak passing lost several chances. Bradley was getting some wretched passes on nis wing. Olliver made a great, run, side-stepping his way through several opponents, but he kept the ball too long and b:s pass was intercepted. Fcilding supporters were on their teet when AVahlin started a promising movement in which R. Dewe Newman and AV. McCorkindalo participated, but a forward pass stopped further progress. H. Dewe at this stage retired injured. Old Boys returned to the attack and Thompson made a gallant attempt to cross, but he was brought ucwn inches from the line. There was no further score and time was called with Old Boys still attacking and the score : Old BoVs 0, Feihling A G. Air F. Petrc was the referee.
