EXPLOSION ON LAUNCH.
OCCUPANT INJURED. Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Julv 12. Set on fire by an explosion, the fishing launch Elfio was burnt to the water level a mile out at sea from the fishermen’s wharf at Kaikoura on Saturday. The only man aboard, Mr S. Low, of Kaikoura, _ was at first stunned by the explosion and then forced to jump into the sea to escape the flames. He was picked up by another fishing launch. The Elfie was owned by Mr G. Taylor, of Kaikoura, and operated by Mr Low. He was in the engine room when a violent explosion blew him into the boat’s well, and the vessel was immediately enveloped in flames. Mr Low received burns and bruises, which are not serious.
