THE RAIL CAR.
EXPRESS TIMES BEATEN. Per Press Association. HAMILTON, July 2. The contention of the Minister oi Railways and the General-Manager of Railways (Mr G. H. Mackley) and others interested in the production of the new railcar that the journeys have been considerably shortened by this method of transport was confirmed yesterday when the railcar established several record runs. Leaving Tauranga in the morning the railcar made the trip to Thames North in 2 hours 2 minutes, while the fastest express takes 4 hours 45 minutes. From Thames North to Morrinsville, a distance of 44.0 miles, the car took one hour 8 minutes, against 3 hours 1 minute by the express., The 113.12 miles from Thames to Rotorua occupied 2 hours 57 minutes against 7 hours 21 minutes by train.
