GISBORNE RAILWAY.
CLEARING EARTHQUAKE DAMAGE. GISBORNE, May 15. Considerable activity in the neighbourhood of the Mohaka viaduct, on tho East Coast railway, is reported. A small locomotive is now running oil the line between the Putere turn-off and ltaupunga station on the WairoaMohaka section, and a small petroldriven engine is finding plenty of employment at Raupunga, where aie stacked many of the mum steel uu-ir.-be-.s fabricated lor the Mohaka Viaduct. , . The men who had peer working near the viaduct site have now been trarisfered to the Mohaka tunnel, where there is a good deal of clearing up to do, though the work is of a superficial nature. Mohaka was the centie of the Hawke’s Bay earthquake disturbance apparently, and many slips and other forms of damage were caused in the locality. The railway route runs through most stable country, however, and it should not take long to make good the effects of the earthquake.
