EVEREST CLIMB.
SATISFACTORY PROGRESS. Received May 16, 1.45 p.m. LONDON, May 15. A copyright message from Mr Hugh Ruttledge, wirelessed from camp 3, via Calcutta, states that Messrs bmytlie, Oliver, Wigram, and Gavin, and eight picked porters, have completed the route up the great ice taco of the North Col on Everest, cutting steps and fixing ropes most of the way. The route is steep but reasonably safe from avalanches. Mr Wyn-Harris and Mr Kempson, with 46. porters, have started for the North Col. It is hoped that camp 4, at a height of 20,000 feet, will be completely stocked to-morrow. If possible, Messrs Smythe and Shipton will then occupy it, accompanied by the porters selected to establish the highest camps. Tlio weather is marvellously quiet, but there is rather too much snow on the mountain.
