WOODVILLE, May 14. The Woodville Yomg Farmers’ Club held a meeting during the week, the chairman (Mi- K. Mitchell) being in the chair. An instructive address was given by Mr J. E. Molllwaine, M.E.C.V.S., Government veterAiarian, who spoke on the care o£ dairy cows during winter time. A number’ of questions were answered, and the speaker, was accorded a vote of thanks. Forbes, the Borough Council representative, presided over a fair attendance. The secretary (Mr S. P. Skinner) reported that the year had ended with a credit balance of £2 5s lid. Officers were elected as follow: President, Mr S. L. Fannin; vice-presidents, Sir A. Hansom, the Mayor (Mr H. P. Horne), Dr P. H. Mules, Messrs J. Elder, JR. H. Henderson, S. Turnbull, J. Murray, M. Desmond, J. G. Kearney and J. Brandon; committee, Messrs A. E. James, S. P. Skinner, H. llill, F. Hutchins, V. Lawrence and Mrs James; secrotary, Mr S. P. Skinner; treasurer, Mr A. E. Janies; social committee, wives of bandsmen, with power to add; bandmaster, Mr A. E. James; band-sergeant, Mr F. Hutchins; auditor, Mr L. J. Whittington. The resignation of Bandsman E. Vogt was received with regret. Votes of thanks were accorded all who had assisted the band during the year. On Friday last another step was advanced in the chess championship, when McLachlan beat Harding, Morris beat Horne, and Hartridge beat Offwood. In practice games A. Sinclair beat Baker, Harding beat Baker, and McLachlan and Sinclair, after playing two games, ended with honours even.

Betty Rossister, aged five years, daughter of Mr and Mrs B. J. Roediter, was knocked down on Sunday afternoon by a motor car. Tiio child, who escaped with minor facial injuries, is in hospital where she is progressing favourably. The Woodville branch of the Women’s Division held their monthly mooting in the Parish Hall on Tuesday, Mrs J. M. Graham presiding over a large attendance. Three competitions were hold, the winners being Mesdames Boyd and Hume. Afternoon tea was partaken of, tho hostesses being Mesdames J. Pryde, Meredith, and Gray. Items were contributed by Misses J. Graham (vocal solo), B. Evans (elocutionary items) and Masters D. and E. Boyd (duets and recitation) and Mrs Hume (vocal solos). Mr and Mrs Smith and Mr and Mrs Munro are spending the school vacation at Paraparaumu. Miss M. Nelson is spending the vacation with her parents, Mr and Mrs J. S. Nelson, of Papatawa. Mr A. H. Huetwick underwent an operation for appendicitis in the Dannevirkc Hospital recently and is now progressing favourably.
