TENNIS CLUB.

On Wednesday afternoon the Feilding Lawn Tennis Club officially closed the season, and in the evening a social was held in the pavilion, when the season's trophies were presented. Addressing the gathering the president (Mr W. E, Carthew) said the courts would be available for play so long as the fine weather lasted. The season had not been up to expectations owing to tho broken and unseasonal weather, nevertheless members had, he felt, quite enjoyed their sport. All would agree that the club, had had an eventful season iu respect to pavilion accommodation and the new structure, made possible by the generosity of Mr W. H. Rutherford, would mean much to the success of the, club. All appreciated very much the 1 practical interest taken in the club by Mr and Mrs Rutherford. Mr Carthew' referred to club activities during the season, stating that in spite of the exceptionally wet season and resulting loss of practice the dub had had a very success-1 fui term. In the A grade inter-club competitions it drew with the Palmerston! North Club, but unfortunately had to default in the play-off. The club had also I the distinction of numbering among its members the present Manawatu men's champion, Dr K. G. Salmond, and the Manawatu ladies' champion, Mrs A. Waldin. Concluding, the president offered his congratulations to the trophy winners, who were as follow;—Ladies' A grade championship, Mrs A. Waldin; men's A grade championship, W. Boddy; ladies' B grade championship, Mrs V. Lawrence; men's B grade championship, W. McCorkindale; men's handicap doubles, R. | Humphrey and.G. Darragh ; ladies' handi-j cap doubles, Misses A. Ellerm and M. I McLean ; mixed handicap doubles, R. j Humphrey and Miss T. Carthew; ladies' | handicap singles, Miss M. McLean; men's; handicap singles, C. Wilkinson; runner-up in ladies' A grade championship (trophy presented by Mrs Rutherford), Miss B. Eliott; runners-up -in ladies' handicap doubles (also presented by Mrs Rutherford), Mrs W. H. Burrell and Miss L. Rutherford.

The members gave a round of applause in appreciation of the unceasing interest taken in all club matters by the president, Mr Carthew.
