TIMARU’S FINE DISPLAY. Per Press Association. 'WANGANUI, April 12. The New Zealand A grade Highland Pipe Band contest concluded on Saturday night and resulted in a triumph for the Timaru Highland Pipe Band, which came first in all events promoted, namely, the quickstep, drum major’s disi>lay, and test selection. Dunedin Highland Pipe Band ranked next in the aggregate having gained third place in the test and second in the quickstep. City of Christchurch were ranked third, having come second in the test and third in the quickstep. Wanganui were fourth. The points awarded were as follows: Quickstep.—Timaru, 168 2-5 for drill, 99 for music, total 267 2-5. Dunedin, 163 3-10 for drill, 100 (the possible) for music, total 263 3-10. City of Christchurch. 163 3-10 for drill, 97 for music, total 260 3-10. Wanganui, 154 9-10 for drill, 94 for music, total 248 9-10. Test selection. —Timaru 98, Christchurch 87, Dunedin 96, Wanganui 85. Drum Major’s Display.—Timaru 93J, Christchurch 89, Dunedin 841, Wanganui 79. Timaru takes the championship shield, Harry Lauder Shield, John Begg Challenge Cup. Hunter Drill Shield and Goulding Challenge Cup. THE MANAWATU BAND. There was a large attendance of the public at the Sportsground, yesterday afternoon, for the full-dress parade by the Highland Pipe Band, which left to-day to take part in the B grade competitions at Wanganui. The band yesterday gave a most creditable display. and its improved uniforms were much admired.
