OBITUARY.
MRS M. NESS. Tho death occurred on the eve of Easter of Mrs M. Ness, of Makomako who was one of *the earliest settlers ol that district. Though quiet and unassuming, Mrs Ness possessed those qua lities which gained lor her the respect and love of many residents. About 50 years ago Mrs Ness came to New Zealand from Tralee, Ireland, with her three sisters, two of whom have since passed away. After being married in Wellington Mrs Ness remained there for some years, hut then went to Makomako, about 40 years ago. Mrs Ness had been in failing healtk since the death of her husband four years' ago. Those surviving Mrs Ness are one sister, Mrs Leyden, of Wellington, four daughters (Sister Alecoe of Patea Convent, Misses E., M., and F. Ness, of Makomako) and two sons (Mr C. Ness, of Makomako, and Mn R. Ness, of Featherston). There are three grand-children. Two sons, Terence and Thomas, made the supreme sacrifice in the Great War, and the third son, John, losv his life during the influenza epidemic of 1918.
