DETECTIVE’S EVIDENCE
Per Press Association. WANGANUI, March 18. As the result of incidents at the Waverley Show, yesterday, Robert Watson, aged 30, was before the Court this morning charged with aiding and abetting in the commission of an offence, and was fined £*o, with, costs 10s. , , Detective Packman, who arrested accused, said ope well-known \\ aitotara farmer had been induced to write out a cheque for £IOO, but became suspicious?' • and stopped payment. Complaints were received that various sums had been lost, ranging from £2 to £ls. Accused stood at tlie gate and picked out likely farmeis and engaged' them in conversation, and would be joined by other members of a gang and the fanner would be introduced to what was known as the “golf hole” game of rolling a ball into a bole. The temptation here was to double up to recover, one s losses. When accused was arrested the other members of the gang disappeared with most of the money.
