RAINBOW TROUT OVA.
DISPATCHED TO BATAVIA. SUCCESSFUL EXPERIMENT. ROTORUA, Sept. 2G. Tlie conservator of fish and game at Rotorua, Bir A. Kean, has received advice that a consignment' of 10,000 rainbow trout ova that was dispatched from the Department of Internal Affairs hatchery at Tokaanu to Bir G. 81. Bfiesegacs, of Batavia, Dutch East Indies, arrived at its destination on August Bin good condition. The ova were carried in specially constructed containers at carefully regulated temperature, which artificially delayed the hatching of the fry until after their arrival in Java. Bir Bliesegr.es has advised that 8000 healthy and vigorous fry were hatched from the consignment and that these would be liberated.at a suitable date. This is the first shipment of trout fry to be sent from New Zealand to Java and the success of the experiment is regarded with considerable satisfaction. Difficulties were increased owing to the fact that the boxes containing tho fry had to be transhipped at Sydney to the Dutch liner Nieuw Zeeland.
